The tensile strength and yield strength of carbon steel coils increase with the increase of carbon content (such as the tensile strength of Q235 carbon steel is 375-500MPa, and Q355 carbon steel can reach 470-630MPa), which is suitable for manufacturing high-load structural parts such as building frames, bridge steel beams, and mechanical bases. 1. Mechanical performance advantage: balance of strength and toughness
High-strength bearing capacity:
The tensile strength and yield strength of carbon steel coils increase with the increase of carbon content (such as the tensile strength of Q235 carbon steel is 375-500MPa, and Q355 carbon steel can reach 470-630MPa), which is suitable for manufacturing high-load structural parts such as building frames, bridge steel beams, and mechanical bases.
Good plasticity and processing adaptability:
Medium and low carbon steel coils (carbon content ≤ 0.25%) have excellent ductility and can be processed into complex shapes (such as automobile shells and pressure vessels) through stamping, bending, stretching and other processes, and are not easy to break; high carbon steel coils (carbon content > 0.6%) have high hardness after heat treatment and are suitable for manufacturing wear-resistant parts such as springs and knives.
2. Cost and economic advantages: outstanding cost performance
Low raw material cost:
Carbon steel is mainly composed of iron and carbon, with a small amount of auxiliary materials (such as manganese and silicon) added, and mature smelting technology (such as converter steelmaking). The production cost is much lower than that of metal materials such as stainless steel and aluminum alloy. Taking Q235 carbon steel coil as an example, its price is about 1/3-1/2 of 304 stainless steel coil, which is suitable for large-scale industrial production.
Low processing and maintenance cost:
Carbon steel coil has excellent welding performance (such as arc welding and gas shielded welding), and splicing can be completed without special equipment; the surface treatment cost is low (such as painting and galvanizing), and the maintenance is simple, which is suitable for scenes with low requirements for corrosion resistance (such as ordinary buildings and civil equipment).
3. Process and processing advantages: Adapt to various production needs
Flexible forming process:
Cold-rolled carbon steel coil: high surface accuracy and uniform thickness (accuracy can reach ±0.01mm), suitable for manufacturing precision parts (such as electronic equipment housing, automobile fuel tank);
Hot-rolled carbon steel coil: high production efficiency and low cost, can be made into large thickness plates (such as 10-100mm), used in shipbuilding and heavy machinery manufacturing.
Various surface treatments:
Corrosion resistance can be improved through galvanizing (hot-dip galvanizing, electrogalvanizing), nickel plating, painting and other processes. For example, galvanized carbon steel coils are used for outdoor guardrails and steel structures, and the service life can reach 10-15 years.
4. Wide application scenarios: covering multiple fields of needs
Construction and infrastructure fields:
Used to manufacture steel bars, floor slabs, scaffolding, etc. For example, the steel structure frames of high-rise buildings mostly use Q355B carbon steel coils, which take into account both strength and earthquake resistance; HRB400 grade carbon steel is often used for floor slab steel bars of civil houses to ensure structural safety.
Automobile and machinery manufacturing:
Automobile body steel plates (such as cold-rolled low-carbon steel) are light in weight and good in formability, which can reduce fuel consumption;
Mechanical gears and shaft parts (such as 45# medium carbon steel) have high strength after quenching and tempering, which are suitable for transmission parts.
Energy and pipeline systems:
Seamless steel pipes made of carbon steel coils are used for oil and natural gas transportation (such as L245 pipeline steel), which are not easy to leak under high pressure; ordinary carbon steel pipes are used for heating and water supply pipelines, which are low in cost and easy to install.
V. Recyclability and environmental advantages: Green recycling
Carbon steel coils can be 100% recycled and smelted after being scrapped, and the smelting energy consumption is only 50% of the original steel. In addition, impurities are easy to remove during the recycling process, and the performance of recycled steel is stable, which meets the requirements of environmental protection policies and is often used in circular economy projects (such as recycled steel structure workshops and recycled steel pipe making).
6. Inventory and supply advantages: Mature market and easy access
Carbon steel coils are basic products in the steel industry, with an annual global output of over 1 billion tons, complete specifications (width 500-2000mm, thickness 0.1-20mm), sufficient spot inventory, short procurement cycle, suitable for rapid delivery of urgent orders or large-scale projects.
